The Editorial Board of Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies is pleased to announce that since 2012, two annual prizes have been awarded for the best studies published by our journal, selected from those published in the calendar year preceding the publication.

• Two independent prizes are awarded, one named after Tomasz Jóźwiak, PhD, Eng. and the other one – after Jerzy Masłowski, PhD, Eng.
• The amount of both prizes is PLN 5,000 divided among all authors of a given article according to the proportions proposed by the latter depending on the contributorship or in the absence of such a proposal – in equal parts.
• Both prizes were funded by the families of the prematurely deceased scientists associated with the Baltic Sea research as a distinction for the best studies published by Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies, which address aspects relating to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and the results of which may have a significant impact on the activities directly connected with the preservation of environmental resources.
• Authors of a selected publication will be honored with a prize, in accordance with the regulation of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk No. 15/R/13 of 31 January 2013.
• The nominated studies are selected from among the articles published in the preceding calendar year.
• The prizes are awarded in February by a five-member Jury consisting of academic authorities involved in research on the Baltic Sea.
• Prizes together with commemorative diplomas are presented during an official ceremony organized by the University of Gdańsk.

The Tomasz Jóźwiak Prize

• Awarded to the author(s) of an article relating to the protection of the Baltic Sea environment published in the Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies scientific journal.
• The prize’s patron is Tomasz Jóźwiak, PhD, Eng., a deceased academic at the University of Gdańsk, who specialized in marine environmental studies.
• The prize’s funder, under the Agreement of 7 September 2011, is Ms. Barbara Jóźwiak – Mother of Tomasz Jóźwiak, PhD, Eng.

The Jerzy Masłowski Prize

• Awarded to the author(s) of an article relating to the biology of the Baltic Sea published in the Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies scientific journal.
• The prize’s patron is Jerzy Masłowski, PhD, Eng., a deceased researcher at the West Pomeranian University in Szczecin, who specialized in research on benthos of the Bay of Pomerania.

The prize’s funder, under the Agreement of 7 September 2011, is Ms. Helena Spirydonow – Wife of Jerzy Masłowski, PhD, Eng.
